      Abstract
      Media luar ruang merupakan media penyampai pesan atau informasi yang memiliki berbagai karakteristik pesan dan diletakkan di ruang terbuka yang cukup strategis agar dapat menjangkau khalayak luas. Media luar ruang sering digunakan sebagai alat yang dapat mengubah perilaku seseorang. Sebagaimana maraknya pemasangan media luar ruang di tepi sungai yang berisi larangan membuang sampah sembarangan. Hal tersebut ditujukan agar masyarakat memiliki perilaku yang baik dalam membuang sampah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis karakteristik individu dan karakteristik pesan yang memiliki hubungan terhadap intensi dan perilaku masyarakat dalam membuang sampah. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif yang dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner dan didukung dengan data kualitatif melalui wawancara mendalam serta observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada hubungan antara karakteristik individu maupun karakteristik pesan dengan intensi. Namun, intensi memiliki hubungan dengan perilaku masyarakat dalam membuang sampah.
       
      Outdoor media is a medium for delivering messages or information that has various message characteristics and is placed in an open space that is strategic enough to reach a wide audience. Outdoor media is often used as a tool to be able to change a person's behavior. Like the rampant installation of outdoor media on the banks of the river which prohibits littering. This is intended so that people have good behavior in disposing of waste. This study aims to analyze individual characteristics and message characteristics that have a relationship with people's intentions and behavior in disposing of waste. This research uses a quantitative approach which is carried out using a questionnaire and is supported by qualitative data through in-depth interviews and observations. The results showed that there was no relationship between individual characteristics and message characteristics with intention. However, intention has a relationship with people's behavior in disposing of waste.
