      Abstract

Indonesian sheep wool has unique characteristics, thus having the potential to add value to a product. Molded Fiber Packaging (MFP) is a form of packaging to protect the product from damage and to facilitate brand introduction. This research aims to analyze characteristics and appropriateness of wool fiber as an alternative component of MFP. This research used Fully Randomized Design with different concentrations of wool fiber additions with 3 replications. The replications were: 1. Without wool fiber/100% pulp (control); 25% wool fiber and 75% pulp; and 3. 50% wool fiber and 50% pulp. The data was analyzed with one factor ANOVA test and continued with Tukey test. The result showed that there were significant differences (P<0.05) in thickness, color, texture and density. While in gramature, tensile strength index, tear resistance index and general appearance there was no significant differences (P>0.05). Can be concluded that consumer acceptance of the MFP wool is stated to be quite adequate according to the quality test standard, provided that the product is an internal packaging function.
