dc.description.abstractThe pelagic fish is one of potential fishery resources in Banyuasin District. The production of pelagic fish fishery landed in Banyuasin District was 29,6 ton in year 2006. The objectives of the research were 1) to determine fishing technology for pelagic fish which more effective, efficient and sustainable based on biological, technical, social, economic and environment aspect; 2) to allocate optimum of pelagic fish catching unit in Banyuasin District; and 3) to determine development strategy of pelagic fisheries. The result of this research indicated that drift longline fishing technology is more effective, efficient and sustainable than drift gillnet and liftnet. The number of optimum allocation of fishing unit has been calculated which consist of drift longline 51 unit, drift gillnet 45 unit and liftnet with 55 unit. The output of feasibility analysis of drift longline fishery is the study area, indicated profit of Rp. 18,767,666, its NPV value was Rp. 55,855,075, Net B/C was 2.22, the BEP value was Rp. 39,055,258 that equal to production 23,669 kg, the ROI and IRR value were 41 % and 48. The output of feasibility analysis of drift gillnet fishery is the study area, indicated profit of Rp. 17,320,000, its NPV value was Rp. 46,437,216, Net B/C was 2.08, the BEP value was Rp. 26,951,872 that equal to production 16,171 kg, the ROI and IRR value were 40 % and 48 %. The output of feasibility analysis of liftnet fishery is the study area, indicated profit of Rp. 23,610,000, its NPV value was Rp. 214,477,312, Net B/C was 3.94, the BEP value was Rp. 31,292,924 that equal to production 16,506 kg, the ROI and IRR value were 32 % and 83 %. The development strategy of pelagic fisheries in Banyuasin District are: (1) optimization pelagic fish fishery with drift longline; (2) development pelagic fish fishery focusing in 6-12 mile zone; (3) Increase management effort of fisheries business; (4) revitalization of fisheries infrastructure and facility; and (5) Empowering scale of fishing fleet and its technology.id
