Design of Fishing Port System Information (Case Study of Cilacap Fishing Port)
Abstract
The objective of the research is to design fishing port information system which is friendly to fishermen. Such system is expected to promote efficiency of capture fishery and management of Cilacap fishing port. The activities of research were field surveys, system analysis, system design development, computer programming, system testing, and necessary improvement of the system. Primary data were obtained from field observations and interviews with stakeholders. Secondary data were collected from Cilacap Fisheries Agency, statistical report from Cilacap fishing port authority and Central Province Fisheries Agency. The research was conducted from December 2004 to December 2006. Data analysis was carried out with system approach; the information system was designed to be more user friendly, especially for fishermen. Types of information available in the system are: (1) service available in the fishing port, (2) fishery activities at the fishing port, (3) general condition of Cilacap Regency, and (4) general condition of fish resources and seasonal pattern. In general, this information system applicable to other fishing port. The data base is structured into four categories, i.e. catch, port facilities, environment and oceanography data, fishing vessels and fisherman. These four categories are explained in several supporting files. The system uses the ASP program, there are two displays: input and output. The input is provided for system administrator and the output while provide information for the users. The submenus available to the users are Cilacap fishing port, fishing information, Cilacap Regency and other submenu on fish resources.
