This study was conducted to determine the typology of mangrove and links between social conditions and community participation in mangrove ecosystem in the conservation area of Kartika Jaya and Wonosari village, District Patebon, Kendal. This research has been conducted with direct observation in the field and interviews with 30 persons in every village. The result from observation of ecological mangrove condition show that typology of mangrove in both area are dominated by Avicennia marina with good condition, mangrove density range is about 1067-1178 ind/ha and 1622-2000 ind/ha in accordance with the Decree of the State Minister for the Environment No. 201 Year 2004. Analysis of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) results that the social factors affecting the conservation in Kartika Jaya villages are community participation in mangrove planting, knowledge about the function of mangrove ecosystems, the distance to the ecosystem, and type of job. While the determined social factors in Desa Wonosari are community participation in mangrove planting as well, knowledge about functions and types of mangrove, the abrasion experience, and home distance.
