Various ways can be done to reduce of catches effort in coral reef ecosystem. One of them is the use of FAD placed in the bottom waters around coral reef. The research was held from August until October 2013. The purpose of this study is to calculate the rate of coral fish diversity, abundance and fish behaviour as a Fish Aggregating Device. In this research, the coconut shells FAD were deployed at the 15 m (FAD 1), 10 m (FAD 2), and 8 m (FAD 3) away from natural reef. The number of coral fishes was obtained by using visual census method, then it was analyzed by Shannon-wiener index and Annova. The results showed that there was an impact from placing FAD in different distance on the number and abundance of coral fish. The diversity values for FAD 1, 2, 3 are 2.299, 3.334, and 3.485 consecutively. In addition, the abundance values for each FAD is 2666,666 Ind/Ha (FAD 1), 1866,666 Ind/Ha (FAD 2) and 3000 Ind/Ha (FAD 3). Most of fish attracted by these device were Pomacentridae and Caesionidae, their swimming behavior showed that they were looking for food surround FAD.The abundance and diversity value of coral fish around FAD was good, which the biodiversity index is >3. It could be categorized as Fish Aggregating Device.
