dc.description.abstract | Integrated farming is a potential alternative system to intensify agricultural land to be more optimally used. Integrated farming aims to improve farmers’ income in addressing land use which has been increasingly competitive. The livestock sector becomes one of the options that can be developed in order to utilize resources effectively and efficiently. This integrated farming system has been applied between salak pondoh plants and etawa breed goats in Girikerto Village, Turi Subdistrict, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta. Research objectives of this study were to identify the integration patterns between salak pondoh plants and etawa breed goats, to compare the income of farmers who undertake the integration system and who don’t, and also to identify the factors that influence farmers’ decisions to perform the integration between salak pondoh plants and etawa breed goats. The results showed that the integration system formed a simple pattern. Farmers utilized the goat’s manure as fertilizers for the salak pondoh’s garden while the leaves of salak pondoh are used as additional feeds for goats. This integration pattern has not involved the processing of wastes from each farm yet. The farmers who undertook the integration earned more income with the value of Rp 6.654.941 per year whereas the farmers who did not undertake the integration got less income i.e. Rp 2.985.526 per year. The main factors that influence farmers' decisions to undertake the integrated farming system were education, area of salak’s land, and age of the farmers. | en |
