Barbonymus gonionotus (Bleeker 1849) known as silver barb is one of the economically important freshwater fish that are frowned upon by the community as well as Indonesia. This fish had a good nutrition with 27.87 to 28.10% of protein. The important factor in the aquaculture is the availability of larvae which influence by the quality of spermatozoa. The purpose of this research was to examine the quality of silver barb spermatozoa on two different aquaculture environments) through the study of the semen characteristics including macroscopic and microscopic evaluation such as volume, pH, color, consistency, concentration, motility, morphology and morphometric of silver barbfish spermatozoa. A total of 20 fish from Purwasari and Parung were used in this research. The samples analysis was carried out in the laboratory of Reproductive and Rehabilitation Unit (URR), Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Bogor Agricultural University. The results showed that all parameters characteristic of silver barb spermatozoa from Purwasari and Parung was significanly different (P<0.05) except for the semen color and consistency, pH, diameter spermatozoa head, concentration of spermatozoa as well as the morphology.en
