dc.description.abstractKaempferia parviflora is a medicinal plant which is highly valuable because of the bioactive compound in its rhizome, such as methoxyflavone. Conventional propagation of K. parviflora by splitting the rhizomes takes time because of long growing period prior to harvest and long period of rhizomes dormancy. Thus, rapid multiplication using in vitro culture is needed. The objective of this study was to obtain the optimum growing medium composition and paclobutrazol concentration suitable for K. parviflora acclimatization. This study was conducted from April to October 2013 and was arranged in a randomized completely block design with two factors and three replications. The first factor was growing medium composition (v/v) consisted of five levels i.e. 100% compost, 100 % charcoal husk, compost : charcoal husk = (1:1), compost : charcoal husk = (1:2), compost : charcoal husk = (2:1). The second factor was paclobutrazol concentration consisted of five levels i.e. 0, 1, 5, 10 and 15 ppm. The results showed that application of paclobutrazol at concentration up to 15 ppm had no significant effect on plant growth until 10 weeks after treatment (WAT). In contrast, growing medium composition significantly affected plant height, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf color. Plant growth on medium containing compost showed better growth than those grown in 100% charcoal husk medium.en
