Kepok merah is one of the cooking bananas having yellow redish mesocarp. Kepok merah has a specific benefit as baby food besides breast fed. The major problem in developing this plantain is the lack of plant seedlings. In vitro multiplication was considered as a technique to solve the problem. This research was aimed to select the best media for the multiplication of plantain kepok merah. Two steps of work have been done which were sterilization method and then treatments in the initiation and multiplication media. Sterilization 1 used consecutively substances Bayclin 20%, Bayclin 30%, Agrept, Dithane M-45, and alcohol 70% while sterilization 2 used Bayclin 5%, Bayclin 15%, and alcohol 70%. Two basic media (modified MS and WP) were used, enriched with 0.2 mg/L IAA and two levels of BAP (3 and 5 mg/L). Method 1 of sterilization was better than method 2. BAP at 5 mg/L in both basic media produced noduls on the explants, but further development was more promoted by WP.en
