dc.description.abstractBulukumba Regency is one of the wodden traditionally shipbuilding area and centre of pinisi shipbuilding in South Sulawesi. Shipbuilding system in Bulukumba without the rules based of naval architecture, such as absence of drawing lines plan and general arrangement. The construction of a ship must consider to criteria accordance with the operating purpose of the ship. Some the construction of a ships in Bulukumba, the craftsman of a ship modificating of a cargo ship to become purse seiner. Therefore it was neccesary kind of stability and design analysis to purse seiner modification because there are difrencess of criteria between cargo ship and purse seiner. The aim of this research : (1) compare the principal dimension ratio of purse seiner modification with Bulukumba purse seiner and Bulukumba cargo ship ; (2) compare the hydrostatic parameter of purse seiner modification with Bulukumba purse seiner and Bulukumba cargo ship ; and (3) compare the quality of stability purse seiner modification with Bulukumba purse seiner and Bulukumba cargo ship. This research is done at Bulukumba Regency, South Sulawesi Province on January until April 2013 with measurements, observation and interview in field. Hydrostatic parameter and stability calculations using naval architecture formula, as are lines plan and general arrangement drawing use principal of naval architecture. Design and stabilty analysis of Bulukumba purse seiner, Bulukumba cargo ship and purse seiner modification make a numerical, deskriptive and comparative method. Cargo arrangement analysis of Bulukumba purse seiner and purse seiner modification done to three cargo arrangement condition on two fishing season (peak fishing season and scarcity fishing season), and then cargo arrangement analysis of Bulukumba cargo ship done to full loaded condition. Results this study showed Bulukumba purse seiner have a value of principal dimension ratio is L/D = 5.22 ; L/B = 13.33 ; and B/D = 2.56. Purse seiner modification and Bulukumba cargo ship have a same principal dimesion ratio value. Principal dimension it’s are is L/D = 4.5 ; L/B = 9.6 ; and B/D = 2.1. Freeboard of purse seiner modification greater than to compare with freeboard Bulukumba purse seiner. Purse seiner modification have a coefficient block value is 0.62 and Bulukumba cargo ship have a coefficient block value is 0.61. Bulukumba purse seiner have a value of coefficient block greater than to purse seiner modification and Bulukumba cargo ship. Coefficient block value of purse seiner modification is 0.80. Stability of purse seiner modification is better than to Bulukumba ship cargo and Bulukumba purse seiner. Purse seiner modification and Bulukumba cargo ship have a same design characteristic. Principal dimension value of purse seiner modification that smaller than to Bulukumba purse seiner caused value of depth (D) and breadth (B) to purse seiner modification is larger. Freeboard of purse seiner modification that to larger can reduce efectiveness fish capture proses the time towed fish net on the deck of vessel. Hull form of purse seiner modification is round bottom and categorized to thin, so can increase to speed caused minimum resistance of vessel. Purse seiner modification includes safety during operation caused stabilty value it’s higher than stability criteria of IMO. Stability of purse seiner modification not differences to cargo arrangement variation, while condition of fishing vessel back to fishing base on scarcity fishing season is the best stability condition. Related to results this study, necessary increasing to fishing equipment, example to winch so that fishing capture process can effective, although to freeboard of purse seiner modification is larger. Condition of stability purse seiner modification better than kriteria satability of IMO and load capacity of large, so that it’s loaded more a catch on peak fishing seasons. This research is expected to be initial information for analyze more detailed to technical aspects of purse seiner modification in Bulukumba.en
