dc.description.abstractKaempferia pandurata is an Indonesian aromatic plant containing essential oil. The objectives of the research were to separate constituents of K. pandurata oil and to evaluate the active components as slimming aromatherapy. The essential oil was collected by steam distillation method from the rhizomes, giving 0.5% (v/w) yield. The distillate was fractionated using column chromatography resulting 7 fractions. Based on gas chromatography-spectrometer mass analysis, the main component in essential oil of was o-cymene, and the major component in fraction 1 was limonene. Fraction 1, camphor, and the essential oil were analyzed for their activities as slimming aromatherapy by using adult male Sprague Dawley rats. Inhalation of camphor and the essential oil showed a trend of higher response on the body weight compared to the positive control (high cholesterol diet). Animals treated with fraction 1 inhalation showed the lowest body weight gain response, 47% (w/w). Therefore, based on these results, fraction 1 do have potency as slimming aromatherapy agent.en
