Aroma in rice has become an important consideration in increasing consumer appetite. Genetic mapping of molecular marker related to the responsible for fragrance in rice was previouslyreported and it was closely linked with microsatellite marker RM223. This study aimed to identify the aromatic character of the gene badh2 in BC5F2 populations derived from crosses between Ciherang and Pandanwangi, both with molecular marker RM223 and organoleptic analysis using KOH 1.7% solution. Based on the foreground selection analysis of the total 272 individual tested lines, 105 lines were found to be homozygous for Pandanwangi (160 bp), 46 lines were homozygous for Ciherang (140 bp) and 121 lines were heterozygous (140 bp and 160 bp). Evaluation of aroma with KOH in selected BC5F2 lines showed variation in quality value, such as slight, moderate, and strong aroma. Thus, through these two selection methods, we were able to select several BC5F2 lines carrying aromatic trait introgressed from Pandanwangi at target region.en
