Research on sustainable fishing management in South Sulawesi was carried out in three regencies, namely Pangkep Regency, Takalar Regency and Bulukumba Regency. The aim of the research was 1) to analyze fishing resource used; 2) to determine the index value and the status of sustainable fishing; 3) to formulate the model for managing sustainable fishing; and 4) to formulated policy for managing sustainable fishing in South Sulawesi. The research was carried out from February to October 2011. The types of data used were primary as well as secondary data. The data were analyzed using the Rapfish method and the Multi Dimensional Scaling (MDS). The Rapfish method was used to find out the index of sustainable level of the fishing activities from various dimensions, whereas MDS was used to know sustainable fishing management in South Sulawesi. The results of the research showed that based on the rapfish analyses that was carried out partially on every dimension the sustainable index value for each dimension was as follows: a) Ecological dimension was 49.07, which shows less sustainable, b) Economical dimension was 53.1, which means quite sustainable, c) Social dimension 60.93, which means quite sustainable, d) Institutional and ethical dimension 46.93, which means less sustainable, e) Technological and infrastructure dimension 48.35, which means less sustainable. From the research, it can be seen that the sustainable index value of fishing in South Sulawesi is less sustainable. The optimistic scenario is the model scenario for sustainable fishing management in South Sulawesi Province, since this scenario is the most realistic model development to be carried out in an integrated manner
