Endophytic bacteria are bacteria that live inside plant tissues but do not cause negative effects on their host and are known to act as a biocontrol agent. The use of chemical-based fertilizers to increase the productivity of paddy var rojolele can be replaced with endophytic bacteria. The aim of this research are to isolate and characterize endophytic bacteria from paddy var rojolele to get potential isolate that can be used as a candidate of biocontrol agent. Characterization was conducted on the morphology, physiology (activity of extracellular enzymes qualitatively, resistance to antibiotics, and carbon consumption qualitatively), and molecular (16S rRNA sequence analysis). Endophytic bacterial isolates obtained amounted to 43 which generally has a characteristic morphology white, round with smooth edges and a raised elevation. Based on physiological characteristics of the test results, isolates BU6A, BU6B, and BO3M were potential as a candidate of biocontrol agent. All three isolates were identified as Bacillus subtilis strain GB4, Bacillus subtilis strain HU48, and Pseudomonas sp. CTN-2.
