Research Result Utilization of Cultivation of Plantation and Horticultural Crops State Polytechnic of Agriculture of Pangkajenne and the Islands (The Case of Utilization by of the Farmers in Manggalung Village, Mandalle Sub-district, South Sulawesi).

Abstract

The research findings on agricultural technology innovation of Pangkep State Polytechnic of Agriculture lecturers have been disseminated to farmers through extension/counseling services to address farmer problems. Based on the research findings, this study aimed: 1) Describe the level of utilization of information and research results and horticulture crops cultivation delivered Pangkep Politani staff; 2) Analyze the relationship between the characteristics of farmers with information sources utilization of research results; 3) Analyzing the relationship between the need for information with the utilization of research resources; 4) Analyze the relationship between the communication behavior of farmers and the utilization of research result information sources; 5) AnalyzE the relationship between extension method with utilization of information and research results; 6) Analyze the relationship between the information utilization and the utilization of research result information sources. This study used a survey method using descriptive-correlational data analysis. The data were analyzed with a qualitative method through statistical-descptive analysis to see the condition of each change agent and a quantitative using statistical-nonparametric analysis. Inter variables were tested using the correlational test of Rank Spearman. The research results showed that: 1) Accessibility to information sources was low and the utilization frequency of the sources was moderate. The level of information utilization of culture research result of plantation and horticulture crops is to increase knowledge and partly practiced by farmers; 2) characteristics of individual farmers significantly correlated with the utilization of research result information sources is education, size of land area and income. Farmers with a high educational background have extensive arable land and relatively high income and tend to make use of Politani sources in their farming; 3) The level of information which was significantly related to the utilization of research result information sources was the need for information to control pest and cultivation techniques. Farmers whose need for information about cultivation techniques and HPT control were high tend to access information sources from higher Politani staffr; 4) Communication behavior which was significantly related to the utilization of research result information sources was access to an agent of change. Farmers with high accessibility to various agents of change tend to have a high utilization of information sources from Politani, and vice versa; 5) The method h was significantly correlated with the utilization of researchresult information sources was the way of delivering the message and the language used by the source of information in the dissemination process. Forms of the language presentation and delivery by appropriate information sources resulted in a higher utilization of information sources by farmers; 6) The utilization of information sources related to the utilization of research result information was the frequency 6 of source utilization, source accessibility, and suitability of the information content with the additional level of knowledge. Accessibility to source information was realated to the information utilization to be discussed.
