dc.description.abstract | Conventional package used to protect quality of food is synthetic material and has caused environmental problem. An alternative for solving this problem is by using biodegradable film. Carrageenan derived from Eucheuma cottonii was the polysaccharide used for synthesing biodegradable film. The film was made of E. cottonii extracted using microwave and combined with soybean powder. Soybean powder influenced the physical characteristic of film. The higher the soybean concentration the higher the tensile strength and water vapour . The films have thickness of 0.01-0.02 mm, tensile strength of 200-800 Mpa, elongation of 8-14%, and water vapour permeability of 5-9 ng m m-2 s-1 Pa-1. The film can be used for packaging because its physical properties is similar to the conventional package have. In addition, the production cost is low and it can used in food sector as well as in pharmaceutical. | en |
