dc.description.abstractThe research was conducted at the Laboratory of Seed Science and Technology, Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural Institute from April to May 2012. The objective of the research was to test the utilization of Rapid Aging Tools (APC) IPB 77-1 MM to estimate the shelf life vigor of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr.) seed and to obtain the procedures for using APC IPB 77-1 MM. This research used physical accelerated aging and chemical accelerated aging on soybean seed of different vigor levels by using APC IPB 77-1 MM. The working principle of this tool is aging seed with a scourging heat vapor for physical accelerated aging and the steam of 95% ethanol for chemical accelerated aging during a given period. The results showed that APC IPB 77-1 MM can be used to estimate the shelf life of soybean seed vigor with physical accelerated aging and chemical accelerated aging. However, a method of physical accelerated aging more consistent than with chemical accelerated aging. Physical accelerated aging conducted using a scourging heat vapor for 0, 1×15, 2×15, 3×15 dan 4×15 minutes on temperature and RH of 52°C and 89%, and chemical accelerated aging conducted using the steam of 95% ethanol for 0, 1×20, 2×20, 3×20 dan 4×20 minutes on temperature and RH of 32°C and 82%. In terms of technical, procedure of chemical accelerated aging easier to do than with physical accelerated aging.en
