Mahoni’s bark has been thought as wood industrial waste, it’s potency as hypercholesterolemic prevention agent has not been reported. The aim of this study was to test the potency of mahoni’s bark extract as hypercholesterolemic prevention agent in rats. Thirty five male rats were divided into 5 groups (n=7) namely normal group (N) fed with standard rat chow, hypercholesterolemic group (HK) fed with cholesterol chow (1,5%) and PTU (0,5 mg/KgBW), lovastatin group (HK + lovastatin 0,2857 mg/KgBW), E1 group (HK+ mahoni’s water extract 4,2 mg/KgBW), and E2 group (HK + mahoni’s water extract 21mg/KgBW). Experiments were carried out for 8 consecutive weeks. The total blood cholesterol concentrations were analyzed every 2 weeks using enzymatic cholesterol oxidase methode CHOD-PAP and measured by spectrophotometer at =500 nm. The results showed that administration of cholesterol chow (0,86%) and PTU (0,5 mg/KgBW) for 8 weeks in HK group increased cholesterol concentration 52,57%. Although the data statistically was not significant ( = 0.05), there is a tendency that mahoni’s extract at the dose E2 cause 35,8% reduction of cholesterol concentration and this was comparable to the reduction in the lovastatin group (33,78%).en
