      Abstract
Limnonectes grunniens is one of the world’s largest frogs. Like most other large frog species in other place, it is hunted for human consumption. The impact of these is poorly understood. The objective of this study were to describe habitat characteristic, population biology, and harvesting pattern of giant frog Limnonectes grunniens in Lambusango Forest, Buton, Southeast Sulawesi. Data collection was carried out at 6 node camps in the Lambusango Forest Area (Lawele, Lasolo, Walahaka, Anoa, Wabalamba, and Lapago) in June – August 2009. Habitat characteristic of frog is shallow river with fast-moderate flow, rock and pebble substrate, and the banks are vegetated with plants. The estimated population result showed the highest number of frog was in Ladongkula with 3469,2 individual / km transect and the lowest in Lasolo with 224 individual / km transect. The study indicates harvesting pattern of frog by local people was for subsistence purpose.
