fhe Papuan ethnic women demonstrated their active contribution in tenns of c'&rt'ducting household's work as well as earning family's living, which might be n~ded to increase family's and their community's welfare. Women activities in th~r household is not only limited for socialization and reproduction process, but fiSo for economic activities that they carry on with man outside their house. Thes! certainly affect the quality of their living, and it consequently causes their unw<2thy living among their community. The aims of this study were: (1) to indeaiify the status and role of the Papuan women fanner to make any decision in their~ousehold and community, (2) to analyse factors, which affect the status and role if the Papuan women fanner in their household and community, and (3) to recOI!mend the real efforts in order to strengthen the status and role of the Papuan womin fanner in making the decision making in their household and community to iniease the capability ofPapuan women fanner. The ihtdy was designed in the descriptive-correlation method. The member of 60 Pap" women farmers were randomly chosen of correspondence. The data coll~tion was carried out from July until September 2008 and the data collected then ~alyzed using the correlation test of Rank Speannan. The results showed that:¥I) The status and role ofPapuan women fanner: a) the productive economic effortS, b) domestic activities such as cooking, washing and looking after children, c) social activities, d) Health, including reproductive health, family planning activities, e) education of family member, f) Housing issues, g) the preference of family'S clothing, h) the preference of house furnishing, i) budgeting, and j) teaching moral values for children, (2) The internal factors, which are correlated to the status and role of Papuan women fanner in the decision making in their household, are the age and fonnal education, meanwhile the external factor is involment in the group.
