      Abstract
This experiment was conducted to determine osmolarity and its relation with physiological responses (osmotic gradient, oxygen consumption levels, blood glucose level, protein retention, energy retention, feed efficiency, growth and survival rate) of Hemibagrus nemurus fry. The experiment used aquarium sized 50x35x30 cm, the number are twelve, each aquarium contain 30 l of water equipped with circulation pump, filter, heater and closed with black plastic. This experiment is completely randomized design with four different treatment and three replications. Thirty fish with induvidual mean body weight of 2.5±0.05 g, were fed upon the experimental diets five times a day at satiation, for 40 days. Observation parameters were osmotic gradient, oxygen consumption levels, blood glucose level, protein retention, energy retention, feed efficiency, growth and survival rate of Hemibagrus nemurus fry. The results showed that medium osmolarity (salinity) has significant influence to physiological responses of Hemibagrus nemurus fry. Medium osmolarity of 6 ppt was the best result that expressed by osmotic gradient (0.062±0.007 Osmol/kg H2O), oxygen consumption level (0.47±0.03 mg O2 /g/hour), blood glucose level (38.20±0.47 mg/100 ml), protein retention (25.73±1.50%), energy retention (28.73±0.61%), growth (4.09±0.07%) and feed efficiency (70.64±0.80%). While the survival rate responses to medium osmolarity given same influence.
