dc.description.abstractDiarrhea is one of the health problems in Indonesia and other developing countries. Shigella is the second most frequently detected pathogenic bacteria in patients with diarrhea. This research was conducted to isolate and identify the Shigella bacteria and to discover leukocytes count from children with diarrhea in Sindang Barang health center. Feces samples were obtained with rectal swab. Salmonella-Shigella Agar media have been used for isolation of Shigella bacteria. Blood samples were taken from finger. The leukocytes count was done with the Simmon method. The biochemical tests were used MR-VP, indole production, citrate, glucose fermentation, H2S, and urease production. From the 100 samples obtained 13 were suspected as Shigella. Biochemical tests were done to the 13 samples, 9 isolates of Shigella was obtained after the biochemical test with persentage of 9%. The leukocytes count varied from leucopenia to normal.en
