      Abstract

Aluminum toxicity is a major limiting factor affecting plant growth and crop productivity in acidic soils. In Indonesia, the total area of acidic soils is estimated to reach approximately 101.5 million hectares, of which around 48.3 million hectares consist of red-yellow podzolic soils. These soil conditions significantly constrain agricultural development, particularly for staple crops such as maize. In order to achieve future maize self-sufficiency, efforts to improve productivity and expand cultivation into marginal lands must be intensified. Therefore, the development and availability of maize varieties that are tolerant to aluminum toxicity are critically important to support sustainable agricultural production on acidic soils.
