People interest in ginger (Zingiber officinaie Rose) has raised since the demand for ginger export increased. In 1985 the export of ginger was 11176.8 tons, and in 1991 was 46299.2 tons (BPEN, 1992). Increasing the intensity of land utilization is important not on1y for increasing the ginger production, but also to ensure the continuity of ginger supply, especially in the limited planting area. The problem faced in increasing land utilization intensity by continuous cropping pattern is the yield 1oss of the second crop. The yield loss in the continuous cropping can be caused by several factors, among others is the fitotoxic effect of the previous crop (allelopathy). The objective of this research is to study the effect of allelopathy on the yield loss of ginger as the second crop in the ginger continuous cropping pattern.
