      Abstract

Seagrass ecosystems play an important role as habitats for diverse biota, sediment stabilizers, and carbon storage ecosystems; however, information on seagrass communities in the Liukang Tangaya Marine Protected Area remains limited. This study aimed to identify seagrass species and analyze their community structure in Areas 1, 2, and 3. The survey was conducted in October 2025 using the quadrat transect method following the COREMAP-CTI guidelines across 27 islands. A total of 10 seagrass species from two families were identified, with the highest species richness recorded in Area 2 (10 species), followed by Area 3 (9 species) and Area 1 (8 species). Seagrass cover ranged from 37.71–44.84% and was categorized as moderate and in less healthy condition, while density ranged from 194.87–325.21 individuals/m². Thalassia hemprichii was the dominant species in Areas 1 and 2, whereas Enhalus acoroides was dominant in Area 3. The Shannon– Wiener diversity, evenness, and dominance indices ranged from 0.81–1.09, 0.58– 0.64, and 0.45–0.57, respectively. Bray–Curtis similarity ranged from 0.4897– 0.8118, with the highest similarity observed between Areas 1 and 2.
