Sweet pepper (Capsicum annuum var. grossum) is a highly-valued fruit vegetable rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, with an ever-gr owing market demand. In Indonesia, the supply of sweet pepper seeds is heavily reliant on introduced varieties from multinational companies, which are generally optimized only for subtropical climates or highland ecosystems. The high rate of agricultural land conversion in the highlands leads to landuse competition among other highland commodities, and threatens national production stability. Shifting cultivation to the lowlands is often hindered by high-temperature stress and extreme rainfall causing a drastic decline in yield due to flower abortion and fruit malformation. Therefore, the development of national superior sweet pepper varieties that are highly adaptable and productive in lowland ecosystems is an essential strategic step to maintain market supply availability. The IPB pepper breeding program has successfully developed F7 and F8 generation nonhybrid sweet pepper potential lines through pedigree selection from crosses between local large chilies and South Korean sweet peppers. These potential lines were specifically bred to feature a horn-shaped fruit, which offers better digestibility, aligns with Asian market preferences, and can sustain high productivity in the lowlands. The heterogeneous tropical climate demands genotype testing across various environmental conditions to estimate the genotype by environment (GxE) interaction effect and ensure the yield stability of prospective varieties before dissemination of the variety. This study aimed to evaluate growth performance and yield, separate the GxE interaction effects across different seasons, and identify the best IPB sweet pepper potential lines to be registered as lowland adaptive nonhybrid varieties. The first experiment evaluated the performance of six IPB potential sweet pepper lines over two planting seasons with differing rainfall intensity and temperatures. Combined analysis of variance showed that the genotype by season (G x M) interaction had a highly significant effect on most yield component traits, such as fruit weight per plant, productivity, and flesh thickness. The second planting season provided a more optimal microclimate for vegetative and generative growth compared to the first season, which was subjected to high rainfall stress. Paprika Merah IPB and Gemoy IPB lines demonstrated the best cumulative yield performance, with productivity reaching 10,86 tons ha?¹ and 10,33 tons ha?¹, respectively. Guritno IPB line exhibited specific superiority in fruit length (10,35 cm) and the longest shelf life (17,00 days after harvest). Pearson correlation and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) validated that productivity positively correlates with vegetative traits and very strongly correlates with yield components, wherein the Paprika Merah IPB line specifically clustered in the yield component quadrant. The second experiment evaluated the yield performance and superiority test of the selected lines (Gemoy IPB and Guritno IPB) against three commercial check varieties (Arisa IPB, Anies IPB, and Seloka IPB). The results indicated that the tested lines had a highly significant effect on almost all observed quantitative characters. The Gemoy IPB line was identified as the best line, boasting the highest fruit weight per plant (778,08 g) and a productivity potential reaching 16,60 tons ha?¹, characterized by triangular-shaped, bright orange, non-pungent fruits with thick walls and the highest vitamin C content (1,27 mg g?¹). Guritno IPB line showed superiority in fruit length (12,79 cm) and productivity (14,60 tons ha?¹) featuring elongate, pungent fruits. Both potential lines possessed agronomic and yield performances that surpassed all three check varieties, making them highly recommended as candidates for national superior non-hybrid sweet pepper varieties adapted to the lowlands.
