Vegetable oil-based insulating fluids offer an environmentally friendly alternative to mineral transformer oils. This study evaluated the effect of Cu-doped zinc ferrite (CuxZn1-xFe2O4) particles on the properties of refined, bleached, and deodorized palm oil (RBDPO)-based insulating oil. Particles were synthesized by coprecipitation using various Cu ratios of 0.1:0.9, 0.2:0.8, and 0.3:0.7, and dispersed into RBDPO at concentrations of 3, 5, and 7 ppm. The results confirmed the formation of the cubic spinel ZnFe2O4 phase. Particle addition improved the breakdown voltage of the insulating oil compared with the base oil. The best performance was obtained at a Cu ratio of 0.1:0.9 and a concentration of 7 ppm, yielding a breakdown voltage of 68.34 kV. All samples satisfied IEC 62270 requirements for density and viscosity, although moisture content remained above the recommended limit. These findings demonstrate the potential of CuxZn1-xFe2O4 particles as dielectric performance-enhancing additives for RBDPO-based insulating oil.
