Executive function involves planning, response control, information updating, and adaptive strategy adjustment. Repetitive negative thinking refers to recurring negative thoughts that are difficult to control and may disrupt attention. Previous findings on the relationship between repetitive negative thinking and executive function have been inconsistent, and evidence from Indonesia remains limited. This study examined the relationship between repetitive negative thinking and executive function, as well as sociodemographic factors associated with both variables. A total of 326 respondents aged 18–48 years participated. Repetitive negative thinking was measured using the Perseverative Thinking Questionnaire, while executive function was assessed using the Tower of Hanoi task based on planning time, number of moves, and total completion time. Spearman’s correlation was used to analyze the relationship between variables, and Generalized Linear Models were used to examine sociodemographic factors. The mean PTQ score was 28.21 ± 11.39. PTQ scores were not significantly correlated with any Tower of Hanoi component. Sex and educational level were associated with planning time, whereas age, educational level, and employment status were associated with total completion time. No sociodemographic factor was significantly associated with the number of moves.
