Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) has seen a significant increase in use as a ship-building material due to its light weight, corrosion resistance, ease of production, and longer service life compared to wooden boats. However, although FRP boats produced by CV. Roni Marine are widely used by fishermen in various Indonesian waters, their structural dimensions still fall short of the standards set by the Indonesian Classification Society (BKI). This raises questions about the structural capacity of these boats to withstand wave loads under operational conditions. The aim of this study is to determine the mechanical properties of FRP boats produced by CV. Roni Marine, analyze their structural response to wave loads using numerical simulation, and compare the results of mechanical tests with the simulation results. The mechanical properties were evaluated through tensile tests based on ASTM D638 and three-point bending tests based on ASTM D790. Structural simulations were performed using SolidWorks Simulation under maximum wave conditions in the operational area, namely a wave height of 3 m, a wave period of 10.11 s, and wave energy of 44.662 W/m. Results show that tensile strength ranges from 72.67 to 145.44 MPa, while flexural strength ranges from 134.41 to 233.33 MPa. The highest tensile strength was observed at the keel, while the highest flexural strength was obtained at the bow. Simulation results show a maximum von Mises stress of 1.572 MPa and a maximum static displacement of 8.354 mm. This simulated von Mises stress across all sections of the boat remains lower than the tensile and flexural strengths of the FRP material. These findings indicate that the FRP boats manufactured by CV. Roni Marine are structurally capable of withstanding the maximum wave loads in their operational area without experiencing structural failure.
