      Abstract

Human activity may influence the behavior of free-roaming domestic cats (Felis catus). This study analyzed the daily behavior of free-roaming domestic cats, the relationship between visitor numbers and cat behavior, and human–cat interactions in the canteen and female dormitory areas of IPB University during the active semester and semester break. Eleven cats were observed using scan sampling and ad libitum sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and Pearson correlation analysis. Negative behavior, self-care behavior, and human–cat interactions differed significantly between the two observation periods (p < 0.05), whereas affiliative behavior did not (p > 0.05). Visitor numbers were positively correlated with negative behavior and human–cat interactions but negatively correlated with self-care behavior. These findings demonstrate that human activity influences the daily behavior and interaction patterns of free-roaming domestic cats on campus.
