      Pengaruh Daya Simpan Serbuk Sari terhadap Keberhasilan Reproduksi dan Mutu Benih Mentimun (Cucumis sativus L.)

      Abstract
      AZKIAH. Pengaruh Daya Simpan Serbuk Sari terhadap Keberhasilan Reproduksi dan Mutu Benih Mentimun (Cucumis sativus L.). Dibimbing oleh ENY WIDAJATI dan OKTI SYAH ISYANI PERMATASARI. Mentimun (Cucumis sativus L.) bersifat monoecious, dengan bunga jantan terbentuk lebih awal dan jumlahnya lebih banyak dibandingkan bunga betina. Pengelolaan serbuk sari dilakukan untuk menjaga ketersediaan serbuk sari dan mempertahankan viabilitasnya hingga bunga betina siap diserbuki. Penelitian ini bertujuan mempelajari daya simpan serbuk sari mentimun dan dampaknya terhadap keberhasilan reproduksi dan mutu benih. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan rancangan kelompok lengkap teracak (RKLT) faktor tunggal yaitu lama simpan serbuk sari pada suhu (-20±2 ?) selama 0, 2, 4, 6, dan 8 hari setelah simpan (HSS). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa serbuk sari segar memiliki viabilitas 61,62%, menurun menjadi <1% setelah mengalami penyimpanan. Rendahnya viabilitas serbuk sari ini tidak selalu linear dengan keberhasilan reproduksi dan mutu benih. Perlakuan 8 HSS dengan viabilitas serbuk sari sebesar 0,19% masih mampu menghasilkan pembentukan buah dan benih masing-masing sebesar 23,33% dan 45,33%. Mutu fisiologis benih juga menunjukkan nilai yang baik pada nilai daya berkecambah, kecepatan tumbuh, dan indeks vigor benih, masing-masing sebesar 92%, 24,76%, dan 79,33%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa viabilitas serbuk sari belum sepenuhnya mencerminkan kemampuan reproduksi serbuk sari di lapangan maupun mutu benih.       AZKIAH. The Effect of Pollen Viability on Reproductive Success and Seed Quality in Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.). Supervised by ENY WIDAJATI and OKTI SYAH ISYANI PERMATASARI. Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) are monoecious, with male flowers forming earlier and in greater numbers than female flowers. Pollen management is carried out to ensure pollen availability and maintain the viability until the female flowers are ready for pollination. This study aimed to investigate the storage life of cucumber pollen and the impact on reproductive success and seed quality. The study was conducted using a single-factor completely randomized complete block design (RCBD), with the single factor being pollen storage duration at a temperature of (-20±2 ?) for 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8 days after storage (DAS). The results showed that fresh pollen had a viability of 61.62%, which decreased to <1% after storage. This low pollen viability does not always correlate linearly with reproductive success and seed quality. Treatment 8 DAS with pollen viability of 0.19% was still able to produce fruit and seed seat at 23.33% and 45.33%. The physiological quality of the seeds also showed good values for germination rate, growth rate, and seed vigor index, at 92%, 24.76%, and 79.33%, respectively. The results of this study indicate that pollen viability does not fully reflect pollen reproductive capacity in the field or seed quality.
