      Abstract

The increase in Indonesia's educated labor force has not been fully accompanied by the availability of jobs that match educational qualifications, resulting in the phenomena of vertical skill mismatch and educated unemployment. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing these two phenomena as well as regional disparities across Indonesia. The study uses data from the August 2024 Sakernas and applies the Survey-Weighted Multinomial Logit analysis. The results indicate that the majority of the educated labor force is employed in matched jobs, although undereducated, overeducated, and educated unemployment conditions still exist. Reservation wages, human capital investment, demographic factors, job support factors, and labor demand significantly affect vertical skill mismatch and educated unemployment, with varying directions of influence. In addition, regional disparities are evident, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara tending to experience higher levels of vertical skill mismatch, while Java is more sensitive to educated unemployment. These findings highlight the importance of employment policies that are tailored to the characteristics of regional labor markets.
