      Abstract

Restaurant wastewater contains organic matter and suspended solids that can degrade water quality if discharged without proper treatment. One method that can be applied to reduce these pollutants is the Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP). This study to determine the most effective sodium percarbonate dosage and ozonation duration for reducing Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) in restaurant wastewater, as well to evaluate its potential as an alternative to hydrogen peroxide in AOP systems. A factorial experimental design was employed using two sodium percarbonate dosages (25 mg/L and 100 mg/L) and three ozonation durations, 15, 30, and 60 minutes. The results showed that all treatments reduced BOD and TSS concentrations compared with the control. The greatest BOD reduction was achieved at 25 mg/L sodium percarbonate with 30 minutes of ozonation (D1W2), while the highest TSS reduction occurred at 25 mg/L with 15 minutes of ozonation (D1W1). Based on the decision matrix analysis, D1W2 was identified as the optimal treatment, achieving BOD and TSS reduction efficiencies of 24,88% and 51,43%, respectively. Although statistical analysis indicated no significant differences among treatments (p > 0,05), sodium percarbonate demonstrated potential as an alternative oxidant source in AOP systems for restaurant wastewater treatment.
