      Abstract

The seagrass ecosystem of Pari Island records the presence of 37 species from 19 families and 9 orders, significantly dominated by yuwanae fish (89%) and temporary residents (74%). Index of proponderence analysis shows zooplankton as the main food for the majority of species in all three observation seasons. The general feeding strategy is generalist, although there is a shift towards opportunism in the dry season and transition due to fluctuations in benthic organism availability. The high percentage of yuwanae zooplanktivores proves that the seagrass beds of Pari Island are a crucial nursery ground and feeding area. The species Sphyraena barracuda occupies the position of a top predator with the highest trophic level (4.50), while Leptoscarus vaigiensis is at the lowest trophic level as a primary consumer in the algivore category (2.01).
