      Abstract

The Miana plant (Coleus scutellarioides (L.) Benth.) contains secondary metabolites, such as terpenoid, which can act as natural anti-inflammatory. This study aimed to analyze the terpenoid content and anti-inflammatory activity of Miana leaves grown under different shading levels, consisting of 0%, 25%, 50%, and 75% shading. Miana leaf extracts were obtained using the microwave-assisted extraction method, terpenoid content analysis was performed using thin-layer chromatography (TLC), and anti-inflammatory activity analysis was conducted using the red blood cell membrane stabilization method. The terpenoid content analysis and anti-inflammatory activity analysis showed no significant differences across the shading levels. The average Rf values in the TLC terpenoid analysis were 0.38 for 0% shading, 0.39 for 25% shading, 0.39 for 50% shading, and 0.39 for 75% shading. Analysis of the anti-inflammatory activity of miana leaf extract showed fairly good results because the inhibition percentage was above 50%, ranging from 62.71% to 66.40%.
