dc.description.abstractABSTRAK AJRINA SALMA. Pengaruh Integrasi Kolom Winogradsky terhadap Kinerja Listrik SMFC pada Sedimen Situ Burung Dramaga. Dibimbing oleh AKHIRUDDIN MADDU dan NISA RACHMANIA MUBARIK. Kebutuhan energi yang terus meningkat mendorong pengembangan energi terbarukan sebagai alternatif bahan bakar fosil. Salah satu inovasi yang menjanjikan adalah Sediment Microbial Fuel Cell (SMFC), sistem bioelektrokimia yang memanfaatkan metabolisme bakteri elektroaktif dalam sedimen untuk menghasilkan listrik. Penelitian ini membandingkan kinerja SMFC antara sedimen asli dan sedimen yang dimodifikasi menggunakan Kolom Winogradsky berbahan kuning telur dan kertas buram, menggunakan sedimen Situ Burung Dramaga, Kabupaten Bogor. Kinerja diukur melalui kurva polarisasi pada hari ke-5, 6, 7, 12, 13, dan 14, serta analisis Total Plate Count (TPC). Sedimen asli mencapai puncak kinerja pada hari ke-6 dengan OCV 726 mV dan rapat daya 2,685 mW/cm2, namun menurun signifikan pada hari ke-12 hingga ke 14. Sedimen modifikasi Kolom Winogradsky menunjukkan peningkatan konsisten hingga hari ke-12 dengan OCV 734 mV, arus 67 µA, dan rapat daya 2,547 mW/cm2. Kepadatan bakteri sedimen Winogradsky mencapai 3,4 × 106 CFU/mL, jauh melampaui sedimen asli yang berada di bawah 104 CFU/mL. Integrasi Kolom Winogradsky terbukti efektif meningkatkan kepadatan komunitas bakteri elektrogenin sehingga menghasilkan kinerja SMFC yang lebih stabil dan berkelanjutan dalam jangka panjang. dc.description.abstractABSTRACT AJRINA SALMA. The Effect of Winogradsky Column Integration on the Electrical Performance of SMFC Using Sediment from Situ Burung Dramaga. Supervised by AKHIRUDDIN MADDU and NISA RACHMANIA MUBARIK. The ever-increasing demand for energy drives the development of renewable energy as an alternative to fossil fuels. One promising innovation is the Sediment Microbial Fuel Cell (SMFC), a bioelectrochemical system that utilizes the metabolism of electroactive bacteria in sediment to generate electricity. This study compares SMFC performance between original sediment and modified sediment using a Winogradsky Column made from egg yolk and unbleached paper (newsprint), utilizing sediment from Situ Burung Dramaga, Bogor Regency. Performance was measured through polarization curves on days 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14, as well as Total Plate Count (TPC) analysis. The original sediment reached peak performance on day 6 with an OCV of 726 mV and a power density of 2.685 mW/cm2, but decreased significantly from day 12 to 14. The sediment modified with the Winogradsky Column showed a consistent increase until day 12 with an OCV of 734 mV, a current of 67 µA, and a power density of 2.547 mW/cm2. The bacterial density of the Winogradsky sediment reached 3,4 × 106 CFU/mL, far exceeding the original sediment which remained below 104 CFU/mL. The integration of the Winogradsky Column is proven effective in increasing the density of the electrogenic bacterial community, thereby producing a more stable and sustainable long-term SMFC performance.
