D IZUL ISLAM.
D IZUL ISLAM. Effect of Planting Methods on the Vegetative Growth of Mucuna bracteata in Division 3 of Mentari Kulim Estate. Supervised by MUHAMAD SYUKUR. Mucuna bracteata is a widely used leguminous cover crop (LCC) in oil palm plantations. This study aimed to analyze the direct dibble planting and polybag planting methods on the vegetative growth and land coverage speed of M. bracteata in Division 3 of Mentari Kulim Estate. The study used a single-factor randomized complete block design with a single tree plot system, consisting of two treatments each replicated ten times. Observed parameters included germination rate, survival rate, vine length, leaf number, stem diameter, and percentage of land coverage. The results showed that the polybag method produced significantly higher germination and survival rates than the dibble method, while planting method significantly affected vine length and leaf number only at the fourth week and had no effect on stem diameter. Despite its lower survival rate, surviving dibble-method plants exhibited higher growth vigor, resulting in a greater percentage of land coverage by the end of the observation period.
