| dc.description.abstract | Ketergantungan bahan baku kayu dalam pembuatan kertas mendorong pemanfaatan limbah pertanian menjadi sumber serat alternatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan memanfaatkan limbah kulit jagung sebagai bahan baku alternatif kertas kemasan dengan penambahan polivinil asetat (PVAc) sebagai agen pengikat serta menganalisis karakteristik fisik, mekanis, dan kimia kertas tersebut. Pulp kulit jagung diperoleh melalui proses delignifikasi menggunakan NaOH 14% dan bleaching menggunakan H2O2 15%, kemudian dicetak menjadi kertas dengan variasi konsentrasi PVAc 0%, 1%, 3%, dan 5%. Karakterisasi dilakukan melalui pengujian kadar air, rendemen, gramatur, ketebalan, kuat tarik, dan kuat sobek, serta analisis spektroskopi inframerah transformasi Fourier (FTIR). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kadar air limbah kulit jagung sebesar 8,95% dan rendemen pulp sebesar 22,86%. Penambahan PVAc sesuai dengan uji ANOVA tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap gramatur dan ketebalan, tetapi berpengaruh sangat nyata terhadap kuat tarik dan kuat sobek. Nilai kuat tarik tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan PVAc 3%, yaitu 0,0424 kN/m, sedangkan kuat sobek tertinggi pada PVAc 5% sebesar 697,5 mN. Analisis FTIR menunjukkan keberadaan gugus fungsi selulosa dalam pengujian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan limbah kulit jagung berpotensi dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan alternatif pembuatan kertas kemasan. | |
| dc.description.abstract | The dependence on wood as the primary material for paper production has encouraged the utilization of agricultural waste as a sustainable alternative fiber source. This study investigated the use of corn husk waste as an alternative material for packaging paper with the addition of polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) as a binding agent. Corn husk pulp was produced through delignification using 14% NaOH and bleaching using 15% H2O2, with paper sheet variation of PVAc concentrations 0%, 1%, 3%, and 5%. Characterization included water content of 8,95% and pulp yield of 22,86%. PVAc addition, based on ANOVA analysis, had no significant effect on grammage and thickness but significantly affected tensile and tear strength. The highest tensile strength was at 3% PVAc, 0,0424 kN/m, while the highest tear strength was at 5% PVAc, 697,5 mN. FTIR analysis confirmed the presence of cellulose functional groups. These findings indicate that corn husk waste has potential as an alternative raw material for packaging paper production. | |
