      Abstract

Rising greenhouse gas emissions have prompted countries to tighten environmental regulations, affecting trade patterns of environmentally sensitive goods (ESG) such as iron and steel. This study analyzes environmental policy stringency, competitiveness, and export performance of Indonesian iron and steel to ten trading partners using RCA, EPD, X-Model, and panel data regression with the Random Effect Model (REM) under a gravity model framework. Results show that Indonesia holds a comparative advantage in most destination markets, with India, Turkey, South Korea, Italy, and the Netherlands identified as optimistic markets, and China, Belgium, Australia, and Spain as potential markets. The destination countries' EPS index, real GDP, and steel production positively and significantly affect export value, while Indonesia's EPS index, real exchange rate, and geographical distance show negative and significant effects. Indonesia's FDI shows no significant influence.
