      Abstract

Dated Brent crude oil is one of the primary global oil price benchmarks because its price is considered representative of the balance in the global crude oil market and is widely used as a reference for oil price determination. The high volatility of oil prices makes understanding and modeling Dated Brent price movements increasingly important. This study employs the autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) model to identify the short-run and long-run relationships between Dated Brent crude oil prices and their explanatory variables using monthly data from January 2008 to September 2025. The best model obtained is ARDL(1,1,1,1,1). The Bounds F-test indicates the existence of a long-run cointegration relationship among the variables. In the long run, Dated Brent crude oil prices are significantly influenced by X1 (OECD oil inventories), X2 (United States import prices), and the first lag of X2 (United States import prices). In the short run, X1 (OECD oil inventories) and X2 (United States import prices) have significant effects on changes in Dated Brent crude oil prices. The model satisfies all residual diagnostic tests, including the normality, autocorrelation, and heteroscedasticity tests. Furthermore, the model demonstrates good predictive performance, achieving MAPE and R2 values of 5.27% and 94.91%, respectively, for the training data, and 5.35% and 95.04%, respectively, for the testing data.
