      Abstract

The transition toward clean energy has become one of the main focuses of sustainable development in Asian countries. To support this process, green bonds have emerged as a green financial instrument expected to increase renewable energy production capacity. This study aims to analyze the effect of green bonds on renewable energy production in Asian countries and examine the moderating role of regulatory quality. Using panel data regression on 17 Asian countries during the 2018-2023 period, the results show that green bonds and regulatory quality have a positive and significant effect on renewable energy production per capita. However, the interaction between green bonds and regulatory quality has a significant negative effect, indicating a decline in the impact of green bonds in promoting renewable energy production. This study highlights the importance of strengthening regulatory effectiveness, developing green financial markets, and increasing renewable installed capacity to optimize the role of green bonds in supporting sustainable energy transition in Asia.
