      Abstract

The Bali Strait is a productive marine area influenced by monsoonal dynamics and interannual climate variability, which affect oceanographic variability and the catch of small pelagic fish, including scad (Decapterus spp.). This study aimed to analyze the spatio-temporal variability of SST, salinity, and chlorophyll-a and their relationship with scad catch in the Bali Strait during 2014–2025. The analyzed datasets included SST, salinity, chlorophyll-a, the ONI, the DMI, and scad catch production data. Analyses were conducted using Taylor diagram validation, spatio-temporal analysis, Hovmoller diagrams, and cross-correlation analysis. Area-3 in the southern Bali Strait exhibited the most extreme oceanographic variability, characterized by a minimum SST of 24.3 °C, high salinity, and chlorophyll-a concentrations exceeding 2 mg/m³ due to intensified upwelling. El Nino and positive IOD phases identified using ONI and DMI enhanced SST cooling. Cross-correlation analysis indicated that scad catch was negatively correlated with SST and positively correlated with salinity and chlorophyll-a at time lags of 1–3 months.
