      Abstract

The Waipoga Basin is a basin located in Eastern Indonesia with hydrocarbon prospects in the form of oil and gas, as evidenced by oil seeps and gas sources consisting of a mixture of biogenic and thermogenic gas. However, research on source rocks integrating geophysical data and comprehensive petroleum system evaluation remains relatively limited, particularly in the eastern part of Indonesia. This study aims to determine the distribution zone of source rocks using petrophysical methods, total organic carbon (TOC) by comparing the Passey method and multiple linear regression (MLR), as well as acoustic impedance. The results indicate the potential presence of source rocks, where petrophysical analysis indicates shale lithology with minimal porosity containing oil and water. TOC estimation using the MLR method yields more consistent and accurate results compared to the Passey method, as demonstrated by a higher coefficient of determination (R²). The MLR TOC results show good to very good values in both wells. Organically rich shale lithology is also supported by low acoustic impedance (AI) values of 10.243,11 – 10.428,43 (m/s).(g/cm³), which are lower than the acoustic impedance values of the surrounding formations. Petrophysical analysis of both wells shows cut-off values of shale volume >31% for the Elang-1 well and >19% for the P-1 well, effective porosity <15% for Elang-1 and <12% for P-1, water saturation <43% for Elang-1 and <50% for P-1, and permeability <32 mD for Elang-1 and <4 mD for P-1. The source rock identification results indicate that the potential source rock zone in the Makats Formation of the Waipoga Basin meets the criteria as a potential source rock based on petrophysical analysis, acoustic impedance, and TOC.
