PENGARUH UMUR PEJANTAN TERHADAP LAMA EJAKULASI DAN KUALITAS SEMEN SEGAR SAPI LIMOUSIN DI BBIB SINGOSARI

Abstract

Populasi sapi potong di Indonesia meningkat sebesar 8,51% per tahun sehingga diperlukan upaya peningkatan mutu genetik melalui Inseminasi Buatan (IB). Sapi limousin merupakan salah satu bangsa sapi potong yang banyak digunakan dalam program pembibitan, dan umur menjadi salah satu faktor yang memengaruhi performa reproduksi, libido, serta kualitas semen pejantan. Penelitian ini bertujuan menentukan umur optimal pejantan sapi limousin yang memiliki libido tertinggi dan kualitas semen terbaik. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada Agustus– Desember 2025 di Balai Besar Inseminasi Buatan (BBIB) Singosari, Jawa Timur. Data dianalisis menggunakan One-Way ANOVA dan dilanjutkan dengan uji Duncan pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Variabel yang diamati meliputi lama ejakulasi, volume semen, konsentrasi spermatozoa, motilitas spermatozoa, dan Total Spermatozoa Motil (TSM). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa umur memengaruhi lama ejakulasi dan kualitas semen segar. Pejantan umur 7 tahun memiliki libido tertinggi dan pejantan umur 5 tahun menghasilkan kualitas semen terbaik berdasarkan volume semen dan nilai TSM. Umur 5 tahun merupakan umur optimal untuk produksi semen pada pejantan sapi limousin.

The beef cattle population in Indonesia increases by 8.51% annually, requiring efforts to improve genetic quality through Artificial Insemination (AI). Limousin cattle are widely used in breeding programs, and age is one of the factors affecting bull reproductive performance, libido, and semen quality. This study aimed to determine the optimal age of Limousin bulls with the highest libido and best semen quality. The research was conducted from August to December 2025 at the National Artificial Insemination Center Singosari, East Java. Observed variables included ejaculation duration, semen volume, sperm concentration, sperm motility, and Total Motile Sperm (TMS). Data were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s test at a 5% significance level. The results showed that age affected ejaculation duration and fresh semen quality. Seven-year-old bulls exhibited the highest libido, while five-year-old bulls produced the best semen quality based on semen volume and TMS values. Therefore, five years of age was identified as the optimal age for semen production in Limousin bulls.
