      Abstract

Climate change has profoundly affected small-scale fishing activities in Ujung Genteng, Ciracap District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, leading to decreased catch yields and greater income uncertainty for local fishermen. To address these challenges and promote the sustainability of their livelihood assets, effective adaptation strategies are essential. This research pursues three main objectives: (1) to analyze the impact of climate change on the income of small-scale capture fishermen in Ujung Genteng; (2) to identify the adaptation strategies adopted by these fishermen in response to climate change; and (3) to assess the sustainability of their livelihoods. The study employs a combination of income analysis, qualitative descriptive analysis, coping strategy assessment, and the Sustainable Livelihood Approach (SLA) using the Sustainable Livelihood Index (SLI). Findings reveal that the average income per trip during the normal season is IDR665.333 per trip. However, during the lean season, average income falls sharply to IDR484.523 per trip (27,17%). Among adaptation strategies, the most prevalent is the mutual assistance network, embraced by all 50 respondents (100%), while only 5 respondents (10%) pursue active job-seeking as an alternative. Overall, the livelihood assets of fishermen in Ujung Genteng are assessed to have a moderate sustainability index value of 0,51.
