dc.description.abstractBanteng (Bos javanicus) merupakan salah satu mamalia endemik di Indonesia yang hidup di Taman Nasional Baluran. Curah hujan yang rendah membuat sumber air minum satwa di Taman Nasional Baluran terbatas di musim kemarau. Banteng diketahui mengonsumsi kundur (Benincasa hispida) yang memiliki kandungan air cukup tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis tumbuhan pakan banteng serta peran banteng dalam penyebaran biji kundur di Taman Nasional Baluran. Penentuan jalur transek dan concentration point menggunakan purposive sampling pada ekosistem perjumpaan banteng. Feses banteng ditemukan di sembilan titik yang seluruhnya berada di ekosistem hutan dataran rendah. Berdasarkan temuan bekas gigitan dan analisis feses, banteng mengonsumsi 10 jenis tumbuhan yang termasuk buah kundur (Benincasa hispida). Biji kundur yang berasal dari feses banteng menunjukan berkecambah lebih cepat dibandingkan biji kundur dari pohon berdasarkan uji Mann-Whitney (uji menunjukan nilai hitung sebesar 0,032). Banteng berperan dalam menyebarkan biji kundur melalui feses dan mempercepat perkecambahan biji kundur.
dc.description.abstractThe banteng (Bos javanicus) is one of Indonesia's endemic mammals that lives in Baluran National Park. Low rainfall limits the water sources available to wildlife in Baluran National Park during the dry season. Banteng are known to consume kundur (Benincasa hispida), which has a high water content. This study aims to determine the types of plants that banteng feed on and the role of banteng in the dispersal of kundur seeds in Baluran National Park. Transect routes and concentration points were determined using purposive sampling in ecosystems where banteng are found. Banteng’s feces were found at nine points, all of which were in lowland forest ecosystems. Based on bite mark findings and fecal analysis, banteng consume 10 types of plants, including kundur fruit (Benincasa hispida). Kundur seeds from banteng feces germinate faster than kundur seeds from trees, based on the Mann-Whitney test (the test shows a calculated value of 0.032). Banteng play a role in dispersing kundur seeds through their feces and accelerating the germination of kundur seeds.
