      Abstract

Scabies is a skin disease caused by infestation of Sarcoptes scabiei and is commonly found in stray cats. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of chemical ointment and herbal ointment in treating scabies in cats. The study was conducted at BBPKH Cinagara using 8 male cats divided into control and treatment groups. The parameters observed were crusting size (widespread decline) and skin scraping examination results throughout the treatment period. The results showed that recovery using chemical ointment occurred on day 5, while recovery using herbal ointment occurred on day 10. Recovery was assessed not only clinically through the reduction of crusting, but also confirmed by skin scraping examination results, which showed the absence of Sarcoptes scabiei mites following treatment. Recovery using chemical ointment was faster compared to that achieved with herbal ointment.
