Deforestation-induced land cover change can increase flood risk by reducing infiltration capacity and increasing surface runoff. This study aims to analyze the impact of deforestation on flood risk in the Provinces of Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, Indonesia. The study integrates Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) using seven flood susceptibility parameters. Four weighting scenarios were developed to evaluate the effects of land cover change and rainfall variability on flood risk. The results indicate that the decline in forest and agricultural areas, accompanied by the expansion of open land, plantations, and water bodies during 2015–2025, contributed to higher flood potential. Scenario 1 produced the largest high-susceptibility area (5.77 million ha), while Scenario 2 generated the largest high-risk area (4.27 million ha). These findings suggest that flood risk is influenced not only by physical factors and deforestation but also by the social and physical vulnerability of the affected regions.
