      Stabilisasi Tanah Lempung Ekspansif Menggunakan Kombinasi Attapulgite dan Polimer Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA).

      Abstract
      Tanah lempung ekspansif mencakup sekitar 65% wilayah daratan Indonesia dan sering menyebabkan kerusakan infrastruktur akibat sifat shrink-swell yang tinggi. Penelitian ini menganalisis efektivitas kombinasi Attapulgite (4%, 6%, 8%, dan 12%) serta Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) 3% dalam menstabilkan tanah ekspansif sedang dan tinggi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa setelah stabilisasi dengan Attapulgite 8%, indeks plastisitas menurun dari 23,66% menjadi 22,68% pada tanah ekspansif sedang dan dari 26,58% menjadi 24,37% pada tanah ekspansif tinggi. Nilai CBR unsoaked meningkat hingga 11,049% dan 9,646%, sedangkan CBR soaked meningkat dari 2,524% menjadi 8,207% pada tanah sedang dan dari 2,018% menjadi 6,834% pada tanah tinggi. Potensi swelling menurun dari 4,13% menjadi 0,12% dan dari 9,36% menjadi 0,89%, sehingga klasifikasi kedua tanah berubah menjadi low. Hasil XRD menunjukkan penurunan mineral montmorillonite dan kemunculan palygorskite, sedangkan SEM memperlihatkan terbentuknya agregat yang lebih padat akibat keberadaan gel PVA dan granular cementation. Kombinasi Attapulgite-PVA terbukti efektif meningkatkan stabilitas dan daya dukung tanah melalui mekanisme filling effect dan bridging agent.
       
      Expansive clay soils cover approximately 65% of Indonesia's land area and frequently cause infrastructure damage due to their high shrink-swell behavior. This study analyzed the effectiveness of combining Attapulgite (4%, 6%, 8%, and 12%) with 3% Polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) in stabilizing medium- and high-expansive soils. The results showed that after stabilization with 8% Attapulgite, the plasticity index decreased from 23.66% to 22.68% for medium-expansive soil and from 26.58% to 24.37% for high-expansive soil. The unsoaked CBR value increased up to 11.049% and 9.646%, respectively, while the soaked CBR increased from 2.524% to 8.207% for medium-expansive soil and from 2.018% to 6.834% for high-expansive soil. The swelling potential decreased from 4.13% to 0.12% and from 9.36% to 0.89%, shifting the classification of both soils to the low category. XRD analysis revealed a reduction in montmorillonite content along with the appearance of palygorskite, while SEM observations showed the formation of denser aggregates resulting from PVA gel formation and granular cementation. The Attapulgite-PVA combination proved effective in improving soil stability and bearing capacity through the filling effect and bridging agent mechanisms.
